Who am I?

|
There are many ways in which to learn about who I am. One way would be to ask me in person what it is I feel defines who I am the most. The opportunity to share with another person that kind of definition, that sense of reason to my own reality, that kind of opportunity doesn't come along very often. Thank goodness for internet blogs then. My aim with this blog is not just to ramble on about my favorite (and least favorite) movies, good music, the books I'm reading, hot babes, etc. but it is to share with the world who I am through what it is I like (thank you High Fidelity for your infamous wisdom). Over the course of this blogs life (however long it's life-span will be) I hope my readers will feel they got to know me better as a person, even if only by a small incremental amount.

Instead of boring you by jump starting this blog with the little details of my life, I will attempt to sum myself up in just one word - and that very specific word is "dreamer". Unfortunately, the reality is that a one word explanation leaves too much to the imagination of whoever may be reading this. I realize what I just wrote is ironic, if you will. Yet I have a specific point in mind. Dreaming is essential for creation - for imagination - for a person's sense of self discovery. I believe in the art of dreams, of never letting go of your passions in life, to always strive for what it is the heart and soul desires. I think living in a state of complacency is negative for all humankind, and that to truly succeed in the world is to find something that makes you happy - whatever that may be.

For me, that happiness lies somewhere in film-making and the art of the motion picture. Movies fascinate me to no end and the idea of crafting a story through a script, a directors visual images, actors, cinematographers, composers, and the rest of the hugely important individuals working their hardest to help service a unique vision put on celluloid is both extraordinary and life affirming. There's real beauty in that. To me, cinema is magic. It's where my mind is while I sleep. It's where my soul is every day, every week, every year of my living reality. Cinema is my surreal reality, a constant reminder of my hopes and dreams in real life. I live and breath the cinema and I will never stop dreaming the impossible until it becomes a reality for me that can be cherished by like-minded souls on their own journeys of self-discovery. In other, less confusing words, I want to be a film-maker and it's because I love movies, but that isn't enough. You must know why. I love movies because they entertain me - Yet even that isn't all. As if entertainment isn't enough I know that truly great cinematic works teach me something about humanity and that I often learn something new about myself this way. Any truly important movie, no matter it's scope, size, or budget can tell me something about art, life, and everything that revolves around in my head to form my philosophical questions regarding reality.

I am someone who loves movies dearly. I am a dreamer, a believer, a passionate person. There are goals I have formed for myself that must be met. Someday I hope to entertain and enlighten you with my own cinematic stories. Until then it is best for me to never stop believing in myself and to always have goals that will create a definition of my own living and cinematic realities. I suggest the same to all others who have ever had the hope, and capacity, to believe and most importantly of all, to DREAM.
